Important! This headboard is made to go with the matching bed-frame, not a standard mattress/box spring/metal frame set-up. It can structurally be used alone; but be aware that if you have a box spring and frame, your mattress will be a lot higher on the headboard than shown in the pictures, and your pillows will slide right into the lower shelf – covering the bottom opening. We have a [hopefully] temporary fix of 8×8″ cinderblocks under the two headboard support legs, and it works fine. It would be nice if it was made to fit a standard bed, and could work *flawlessly* as a stand alone piece as well as a component to the larger bedroom system (sold separately), but that is not the case. Check the dimensions against the height of your mattress before you buy.
